Belief Series 2020+

This series began during lockdown. These drawings are exploring our entangled lives.

In 2016 I started reading group for artists which explores an area of thought called ‘new materalisms’. Generally this sees the world as a complex, fluid, changing world and challenges a human centric/binary approach. It is emerging across disciplines, including feminism. I am interested in the stories we tell ourselves to make sense of the world. Lockdown gave me time and space to think through some of the stories of women I was brought up with and to look more closely at them. These drawings have evolved as I read about Mary Magdalen and St Teresa of Avilia who was captured in a baroque statue by Bernini.
